Eat chocolate, save the world
Just when you thought you'd seen it all, something comes along to prove there's no limit to human ingenuity. Take Climate Change Chocolate bars by the San Francisco company TerraPass. At $4.95 a pop, you'd expect quality chocolate (which, thanks to premium chocolatier Bloomsberry & Co., it is), but the real selling point is the 133-pound carbon dioxide offset that comes with each bar. How does it work? Sales of the bars help support clean energy and carbon-reduction projects, which are meant to counterbalance carbon dioxide emissions. According to TerraPass, 133 pounds is "the average American's daily carbon impact," which means if you eat a Climate Change bar a day you'll be all set.
Climate Change Chocolate is available in milk and dark varieties at participating Borders, the MIT coop, and a few other locations (including the gift shop at the Blue Hill Meteorological Observatory).
