What's growing on your windowsill or balcony, besides dust? Gabriel Erde-Cohen will explain how easy it is to grow food there - and in your backyard - at tonight's "Growing in Container and Urban Plots" presented by the Jamaica Plain Forum. With global warming and a frozen economy, the cofounder of Green City Growers has a few tips on how to be an urban agrarian. Topics include how growing your own food helps reduce your carbon footprint, where to get soil and seeds, how to build a simple raised-bed garden, and the best plants to grow (that awful summer squash is probably included). 7 p.m. Free. The Jamaica Plain Forum, First Church, 6 Eliot St., Jamaica Plain. 617-541-0500, ext. 302. www.jamaicaplainforum.org
