GREENFIELD
A coalition of groups concerned with the environment, fiscal responsibility, public health, and social justice are joining together to fight proposed biofuel plants in Western Massachusetts. The coalition plans today to announce a campaign to ensure that the state maintains a moratorium on biomass energy for at least three years. Biomass plants have been proposed for Greenfield, Russell, and Springfield. The coalition says pollution generated by the plants is a threat to public health and it wants to ensure the plants are not built with subsidies from ratepayers or taxpayer money. Proponents say the plants are safe.![]()
