Use solar power
Photo voltaic systems or solar cells are one of the longest running forms of alternative home energy. While installing a system, once again, isn't a cheap endeavor, retrofitting your home with solar panels can use the sun's rays to help provide energy which in turn, can heat water. A truly effective system can cost upwards to $25,000 and may take up to a dozen years for a homeowner to finally see the fruits of their labor.
