Posted by David Dahl, Regional Editor April 9, 2008 05:26 PM

Boston's semi-new (she started last year) bike czar is using a WiKi style technology (to create a new bike map for Greater Boston), a good bike resume (she raced herself) and the backing of the mayor to push bicycling toward the top of the agenda.

"The mayor started cycling last year," Bike Czar Nicole Freedman told City Weekly's Shifting Gears columnist Ethan Gilsdorf, who bikes to work from her home in Jamaica Plain. "Through his interest he really realized the benefits of cycling for the city. There are some very powerful economic benefits, health benefits and obviously environmental benefits."

Read more from Ethan here . It turns out he even pedals in the winter.
