Put down those car keys!

You didn't really want to pay $3.76 for that gallon of gas, did you?

So bring that ten speed up from the basement, pump air into the tires, put on the helmet and join Bay State Bike Week.

menino.jpg Mayor Menino gets ready to ride today

Today through Friday thousands of bikers across the country are giving up the car and biking to work - or to the grocery store.

If you are nervous about navigating around the infamous Boston drivers, hook up Friday morning with a safe-ride convoy. Experienced cyclists will lead riders on a fixed route and schedule in Boston, Cambridge, Arlington and Newton.

There are goodie stops and on Friday, breakfast pit stops.
For more information go to www.baystatebikeweek.org. Or email ride@BayStateBikeWeek.org or call MassCommute at 617-918-4456.

  1. I have really high hopes for Boston becoming a biking city. I would love it, personally, but the city has to have alternatives to cars. Here's hoping the Bike Czar will succeed in making the changes we need to have a decent biking city.

  1. I regularly cycle to work and was initially excited about the Mayor appointing a "Bike Czar" - however, in the almost one year that's past I've seen not one improvement for bikers. At minimum, it would be nice to have more options for parking and locking one's bike. Especially as I've been told that it's illegal to lock your bike to a meter or street sign on the sidewalk.
