Are shower curtains dangerous?

Posted by bdaley June 13, 2008 02:27 PM

Over 100 toxic chemicals linked to harmful heath effects are released into the air from polyvinyl chloride shower curtains, according to a new report by several national environmental groups.

Polyvinyl chloride, or PVC is one of the most widely use products in the chemical industry, used in pipelines to every day products including shower curtains. A link to the Los Angeles Times story is here:

Massachusetts environmentalists and some legislators are working to phase out such suspected toxic ingredients with safer alternatives. Called the Safer Alternatives Bill, passed by the Massachusetts Senate earlier this session, it would require any product sold in Massachusetts with toxic ingredients to be replaced with safer alternatives where feasible. 1. Just opening up a shower curtain and you can smell a mesh of chemicals. Is there anything safe in our houses?
