New hybrids, and a Prius rally

Posted by David Beard, Boston.com Staff June 27, 2008 12:58 PM

For those of you who have driven a Prius, you know that the instruments let you quickly how much of a leadfoot you are -- and you begin competing to see if you can drive more efficiently, even (gasp!) more slowly to improve your per-tank miles per gallon figure. Globe columnist Alex Beam and a corps of Prius owners test that feature in a ''rally'' of a sort. The winner isn't the fastest, but the gas-stingiest driver from a Whole Foods in Cambridge to an area Hummer dealership.

Who will win? Does this belong on reality TV? Check out the video here . And here's the story.
