Thomas Friedman: McCain has forfeited youth, green vote

Posted by David Beard, Boston.com Staff September 3, 2008 07:26 AM

In his selection of an Arctic oil drilling advocate as his vice presidential nominee, John McCain has emphatically told America's green-loving youth -- and environmentally concerned elders -- that they should vote for Barack Obama.

With his choice of Sarah Palin as his running mate, Friedman writes, "John McCain has completed his makeover from the greenest Republican to run for president to just another representative of big oil.'' Friedman says the move should delight the ascendant Russian authoritarians such as Vladimir Putin -- as it could prolong our dependence on foreign oil.
