Environmentalists lose bid to protect whales from Navy sonar
The U.S. Supreme Court yesterday ruled yesterday that national security trumps concern over the environment and lifted restrictions on submarine training off California that could harm whales.
Environmentalists have long contended that the sounds from submarine sonar systems could cause severe injuries in marine mammals, such as strandings and changes in breeding.
