The City of Boston is teaming up with Down:2:Earth to sponsor "Pitch the City," a contest that asks participants for their ideas on how to make the Hub a greener place.

"As a city, we are taking the lead to make Boston a more sustainable and green-friendly city, but we need everyone's help to reach our full potential," Mayor Thomas M. Menino said in a statement Friday. "From students in classrooms to corporate citizens, some of the most innovative ideas come from the most unsuspecting of places. The Pitch the City contest is an ideal way for anyone to help us turn Beantown into Greentown."

Initial proposals -- including a one-sentence objective and 500-word summary -- may be submitted online at www.d2eboston.com/contest. Proposals are due Feb. 2 and should also include the applicant's name, age, email address and phone number.

City officials will then choose finalists to submit a more detailed proposal, and will identify four winning entries from that group.
