Boston hosting Wild and Scenic Film Festival March 25 and 26
Sustainability is a buzz word in the environmental world today but it can be hard to get a handle on what exactly it means – or how to achieve a greener future.
But starting on Friday, March 25, the third annual Wild and Scenic Film Festival will examine energy, activism and sustainability in a host of events for the public. A panel of heavy hitters in the environmental world will discuss global energy issues on Friday night and on Saturday, environmental films will be shown, followed by a dinner and fundraising auction.
The event is sponsored by “e” inc, a non-profit science learning and action center for schools and the public. Proceeds from the weekend will support “e”’s science and civic works with students in Boston, Cambridge and Somerville.
On Friday, the event will kick off at 6 p.m. at the Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology with a panel moderated by Robin Young, host of the WBUR program “Here and Now”. Called “A Roll of the Dice: fossil fuels, new technologies and the future of energy” panelists include: David Cash, Undersecretary of Policy, Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs; Howard Herzog, Senior Engineer, MIT Energy Initiative; Namrita Kapur, Director Corporate Partnership, Environmental Defense Fund; and Alexander Taft, Climate Officer, National Grid.
On Saturday, there will be two film events at the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston. The first, at 1 p.m. will be short films – documentaries, animations and stories – from around the world about the environment and sustainability. Tickets are $10. The second, at 6 p.m. – tickets are $25-30 -will be a locavore tasting menu of foods and wine and a showing of Carbon Nation with a question and answer with film producer Artemis Jouzinsky.
