A Plea to Holiday Hostesses

Here's a public plea to all hostesses during this holiday season: Please, Help Us Help Ourselves!

Please don't serve those cheesy, greasy hors d'oeuvres that are intended to "hold you over" until dinner is served. Overeating those cute, petite bacon wrapped, whatevers, along with a hunk of melted cheese on refined white bread, will end up causing your guests to add excess calories to their waist before they sit down to your scrumptious meal. Trust me, all this excessive pre-dinner noching will make them unhappy with you in the morning.

Rather, the following list of hors d'oeuvres are guaranteed to please your guests and their waists during this holiday season.  Feel free to watch the video and/or scroll down for the recipes.

 

Recipes:

Sliced Pears with Manchego Cheese and Fig Jam
Slice a ripe pear into eight slices. Using a cheese slicer, slice 8 small slivers of Manchego cheese. Place a cheese sliver on top of each pear slice. Top with dollop of fig jam.

Roasted Veggie Kabobs
Place 10 ounces of cleaned baby portobello mushrooms, and 2 red and green peppers, quartered and seeded, in a roasting pan. Sprinkle with 3 tablespoon of a honey balsamic vinaigrette salad dressing. Roast at 450 degrees F for 25 to 30 minutes. Remove from oven. Cut each pepper quarter in half. Alternate a red pepper, a mushroom, and a green pepper on a 6-inch wooden kabob strip. Serve immediately.

Lobster Salad Serve in a Endive Leaf
Combine a cup of defrosted and rinsed Langostino Tails (they are cheaper version of lobster) in a bowl. Add 2 tablespoons of light mayonnaise, 2 teaspoons of fresh dill, 2 tablespoons of diced scallions, and a teaspoon of fresh squeezed lemon. Combine all ingredients and chill. Serve a heaping tablespoon in a fresh, clean endive leaf.
