Upon a milestone birthday, a dear friend of mine dubbed this year her "Year of No Fear."
And because she and I are friends for a reason, I jumped on that bandwagon -- because it's sort of the de facto theme of this blog. Except it's less about "a year" and more of "a lifestyle" of no fear.
If you don't know by now, I like to really push myself. A lot of people say that, of course, but I actually mean it.
In keeping with the Year of No Fear theme, next weekend I'm running my first obstacle course (Ruckus Boston). I'm excited and slightly worried all at the same time -- which basically means I'm completely pumped.
What's even better is I'm doing this course with yet another group of people I met through this blog (can you tell yet that I love meeting new people?). Thanks, Beth for allowing me to join in on the pain -- er -- I mean "fun."
Plus, in a wacky way, this obstacle course is helping me slog through my triathlon (August) and marathon (October) training by forcing me to cross-train more.
I've been doing push-ups like a mug, squats like there's no tomorrow, and lifting weights like it's my job on the days I don't run. And the swimming... did I mention the swimming? Oh yeah, throw in a little bit of biking, too.
I'll say one thing, these wacky races sure keep you on your toes, training-wise. Plus, it's been fun to tell my hardcore fitness friends I'm doing this obstacle run because, well, it gives me one more wacky thing to discuss with them during those long runs...
