A partner on 17 patents and author of more than 250 scientific publications, she returned to Boston from Bethesda, Maryland, where she was the director of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute at the National Institutes of Health, overseeing an extensive national research portfolio with an annual budget of $3 billion.
