About the Author
John E. McDonough is a professor of practice at the Harvard School of Public Health. He is the author of the book “Inside National Health Reform”, published in 2011 by the University of California Press and the Milbank Fund. Between 2008 and 2010, he served as senior advisor on national health reform to the US Committee on Health, Education, Labor & Pensions (HELP), where he worked on passage of the Affordable Care Act. Between 2003 and 2008, he was executive director of Health Care For All, Massachusetts’ leading consumer health advocacy organization, where he was deeply involved in passage of Massachusetts health reform in 2006. Between 1997 and 2003, he was an associate professor at the Heller School at Brandeis University. Between 1985 and 1997, he served as a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, where he co-chaired the Joint Committee on Health Care. Besides “Inside National Health Reform”, he is the author of “Experiencing Politics” (2000) and “Interests, Ideas, and Deregulation” (1998). His articles have been published in journals such as Health Affairs and the New England Journal of Medicine. He holds a doctoral degree in public health from the School of Public Health at the University of Michigan and a master’s degree in public administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
