Spa Week; upcoming sales at National Jean Company and REI
As I'll be on vacation for the rest of the week, I leave you with three things to consider over the next few days: Spa Week rolls back into town next Monday, with $50-treatments at a host of area spas, salons, and skin-care outfits. (Check out the list of Massachusetts participants here.) It's best to book soon before slots fill up. If you're near Hanover, Charles David Salon & Spa is offering a free wash and style with one of its Spa Week treatments. The week officially ends Oct. 17th, though at least a few of the spas will be extending their deals.
National Jean Company starts its Columbus Day sale on Wednesday, with 25 percent off everything (including items already on sale) in the Newton and Wellesley stores. Brands include Hudson, Paige, J Brand, and Citizens of Humanity, along with Elizabeth and James, Splendid, Vince, and many others. The sale will run through next Monday. Canadian hospitality, for a bit less
If the skin's in need of a little TLC, your remedy may lie in the South End: The recently opened "spatique" Skoah (it's actually an outpost of a popular Vancouver-based skincare shop) is offering one of its facials and a few goodies for 15 percent off through the end of the month. For $145, you get the "fitskin" facial (cleansing, toning, exfoliation, two masques, and arm-and-hand and neck-and-shoulder massages, all packed into an hour) along with a cleanser, a toner, and a moisturizer to take home. (You get a few choices in each of the product categories; if you want an upgrade, you'll just need to pay the difference.) Skoah is at 641A Tremont St., Boston, 857-350-4930.
If you don't have plans next Wednesday...
Even in these lean times, $25 isn't so bad for a night out. Especially if it'll get you free mini-beauty treatments, massages and a bag of goodies at the end of the evening. (Did I mention the free cocktail and the candy buffet?) Prettycity.com and partners including SHAPE magazine, Stella & Dot, Plan B, Essence Boston, and others are hosting a beauty sample sale next Wednesday (the 15th) from 6-9 p.m. at The Estate (1 Boylston Place, Boston). There aren't too many details on the website, but I'm told the all-important swag bags will include products from KISS Nails, KIND Health Bars, CoolOff, Rescue Remedy, and assorted beauty samples. If you choose to go, you can buy tickets here. Space is limited.

Rouge is at 322 Derby St., Salem, 978-740-1044.

A number of area spas will be offering either $50 treatments or discounts of 50 percent; I'm told appointments are filling up quickly. A few pilates studios have gotten in the act as well and are offering special rates on lessons; call the studios to find the particulars of the deals.

Activities start at 7 with a free yoga session from Kundalini Yoga Boston followed by a balloon show from Jungle Jim's and then the movie at 8:15 (hint: it includes a DeLorean and a flux capacitor). Spotting the discounts near you
Daily deal sites and all the other web coupons out there have shown that you rarely have to pay full price for anything anymore, whether it's a hair cut, a meal at an upscale restaurant, or even Botox treatments. You can now add to your daily browsing The DealMap, which aggregates current and soon-to-be-offered deals from Groupon, Goldstar, Eversave, and Restaurant.com, along with discounts from individual stores. Deals are searchable by zip code or city, and though you might find a few repeats (the site is brand new), the variety is broad (discounts on theater and comedy club tickets, self-storage, acupuncture). Those who share deals on the site get points toward gift certificates and freebies.
Italian shoes and luxury skin care
Meanwhile, Shu Uemura is marking the first anniversary of its website by offering 20 percent off and free shipping on orders over $50 until Friday night. Use the code HAPPY at checkout.

Cuts for a cause

If you've been contemplating getting your locks snipped--and you happen to be an animal lover--mark your calendar for November 8th. (It's a Sunday.) James Joseph Salon is teaming up with Animal Umbrella, a no-kill cat shelter in Revere, for a Cut-A-Thon at the salon from noon to 5 p.m. For $50, you can get a cut (they're normally $65-$105 at the salon), while knowing all money raised will be donated to the shelter. There will be raffles for goodies including Banana Republic and Ann Taylor LOFT gift cards; Miss Teen United States-World (not to be confused with Miss Teen USA--who knew?) will make an appearance. Mention the Cut-A-Thon when you call to book an appointment. James Joseph Salon is at 30 Newbury St., Boston, 617-266-7222. www.jamesjosephsalon.com.
