Winning Streak: Design New England takes top honors in magazine competition
Gail Ravgiala and I ventured to NYC yesterday for the 2011 Folio: Awards, with the magazine up for three honors — two Eddies (for editorial excellence) and one Ozzie (for design excellence). After a whirlwind day (involving a lot of coffee and time on the train) I am thrilled to share that DNE is three awards richer!
Gold Eddie — Best Full Issue (Consumer, Shelter/Home): March/April 2011
Silver Ozzie — Best Cover (Consumer under 100,000): July/August 2010
Bronze Eddie — Best Single Article (Consumer, Shelter/Home): Simple Poetry by John Budris, November/December 2010
What a perfect way to celebrate our Fifth Anniversary! The FOLIO: Awards is largest competition for magazines in the country — Hollywood has the Oscars, magazines have the Eddies & Ozzies. These three bring to 11 the number of editorial and design awards we've received since our inaugural issue in 2007 (among them are the Gold Ozzie for best single issue in 2008 and, for the last three years, the Best Shelter magazine award from the National Association of Real Estate Editors).
"This is a real team effort," says Gail. "This magazine has achieved these honors because everyone involved strives everyday to make it the best it can be. Our associate editor Danielle Ossher and our art director J Porter do a good deal of heavy lifting looking at the big picture while also tending to the all the little details. I also have to thank founding art director Jenna Talbott (who designed the cover that won silver) and founding editor Jill Connors for setting these 'gold standards.' "
There were more than 2,000 entries in this year's FOLIO: competition, which was judged by some 100 magazine professionals (click here for a complete list of winners). A BIG thank you to our fantastic team — cheers!
