Summer long garden events at the Mall at Chestnut Hill
Garden event today:
The Beautification Committee of the Columbia Savin Hill Civic Association is hosting its Annual Plant & Bake Sale on Saturday, May 30, from 9am-1pm at 100 Savin HIll Avenue, Dorchester, MA (former St. Williams School)
Annual & perennial flowers & beautiful hanging baskets and Organic herb seedlings: including Genovese Basil, Sweet Thai Basil, Lemon Basil, Cilantro, Dill and Parsley.
Jim Allen, Horticulturist from UMass Boston will lead two demonstrations of his “The Thriller, the Spiller & the Filler” container box gardening technique @ 10am and 12-noon. Guests attending his lecture are eligible to win the arrangement he creates.
Coffee and homemade baked goods will be available for sale.

Garden event this weekend:
There is a gardening group in Quincy, MA this weekend holding a plant sale in the Squantum section of Quincy. Squantum is past the entrance to Marina Bay off of E. Squantum Street. You can get to it via Quincy Shore Drive. From the north take a left at the Dunkin Donuts and follow the road around and up the hill to the school and fire station area. From the south, take Quincy Shore Drive (north) and take a right at the Dunkin Donuts and do the same.
Garden event series June-September at The Mall at Chestnut Hill
Each month, a timely gardening theme will be highlighted through onsite garden and landscape exhibits and one monthly interactive event.
“The feedback from our participation in MassHort’s “BLOOMS!” exhibit was phenomenal, and we wanted to give our talented gardeners and landscapers more space to display their works of art to the public,” said Debora Konig, director of marketing.
Monthly themes and event dates for the 2009 Summer Garden Series include:
June – “Organic Gardening”
Mall event is Saturday, June 6th from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Landscape exhibits by Peter Sadeck, Crystal Brinson, David Haskell, Michael Jardin, Richard Magnuson, Philip O’Donnell, John Gallant and Nancy Carliss
“How to Plant an Organic Garden” lecture and demo by Crystal Brinson at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
Organic product showcase by a local 4-H group
Q&A session with a lawn care specialist
Tomato plant seedling giveaways to the first 200 attendees
Live cooking demo and sampling of organic tomato Bruschetta by Papa Razzi
July – “Roses”
Mall event is Saturday, July 18th

Bee keeper/apiarist on site
Live butterfly exhibit
Coastal gardens & salt marshes exhibit
“Rose Art” – art groups feature their interpretation of roses through live paintings
