The New England Daylily Society will present a Daylily Show & Exhibition on Saturday, July 10th, from 1-5pm, when daylily enthusiasts of New England show their best grown and groomed daylily flowers.

The show will feature hundreds of cut flowers. An ongoing presentation on growing daylilies will run from 11am-1pm. A wide variety of daylily plants will also be for sale from
11am-2pm.

Many varieties are also sweetly fragrant. The scientific name Hemerocallis
is derived from the Greek words meaning "beauty" and "day"-referring to the beautiful
flowers that individually last but one day. However, the buds are produced in such
abundance that the plants flower for weeks.

Daylilies at Tower Hill are primarily featured in the Lawn Garden, in sweeping clumps
between shrubs and trees. Each type is labeled with the cultivar name, sometimes
referring to a historical figure such as "Mary Todd" or "Bess Ross", or describing
the flower itself, such as "Lemon Delight", "Salmon Sheen", or "Royal Flair." Daylilies
are also featured in the Monocot Border in the Systematic Garden. Tower Hill's collection
boasts nearly 100 distinct varieties, many donated by the New England Daylily Society.
Daylilies make the perfect perennial because they are available in a variety of colors, shapes and sizes; they survive with little care, are drought
resistant and almost disease and insect free. The Daylily display at Tower Hill
is a perfect opportunity to become acquainted with these garden gems. Garden tours
are offered every Sunday at 2:00 p.m.

Tower Hill Botanic Garden, located at 11 French Drive in Boylston, is open Tuesday
through Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Members are admitted free, otherwise
admission is $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and $5 for youth 6-18, children under
6 admitted free. On Wednesday evenings through August, the garden is open extended
hours until 8:00 p.m., with ½ price admission after 4:30 p.m. Call ahead for directions,
group rates and special tours. The main information line is 508-869-6111, or visit
the website at www.towerhillbg.org
