Debbie Phelps thought her son, American swimmer Michael Phelps, had won gold in the butterfly. But he was unexpectedly beaten by South African Chad Le Clos. In this NBC video, you can see that cameras caught her in a double -take. Gold medal-winning Michael is used to his mom’s animated reactions and calls them “DP moments” (DP for Debbie Phelps), according to nbcolympics.com. (This photo shows Debbie Phelps and her daughters cheering on Phelps as he competes).
