RISE AND SHINE

MELISSA I got up, ate breakfast, watched TV, and got ready to go.

RYAN [I] biked to the date and took a nip of a bottle of whiskey on the way.

MELISSA The hostess pointed out my date. My first impression was that he was quite handsome. He had brown hair, a casual button-down shirt, and jeans. He greeted me with a big smile (he has a great smile).

RYAN [We talked about] the usual time filler:  how we signed up for Cupid, family, where we grew up, live now, current jobs.

MELISSA Because it was brunch,

I ordered French toast, which was very tasty.

A SUDDEN SHOWER

RYAN The food was pretty good; service wasn’t. A waiter actually poured water into her purse while filling our waters!

MELISSA Thankfully, when this happened, Ryan gave me his napkin to dry off my bag.

RYAN I knew I liked her when she said, “So, do you like sports?” We both played high school golf! [She’s] been to more big playoff games (Patriots loss to Jets!) than me and knows as much (maybe more) about the Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics, and Bruins.

MELISSA He’s funny and we laughed a lot. He likes to bike, and I am a runner. We both have three siblings and really enjoy sports. He is big into hockey, which I also enjoy. We also discussed food, as I really enjoy cooking and so does he.

RYAN Her parents met at a wedding in Ecuador, which I thought was even cooler than my parents meeting on a rugby pitch (where my dad was coaching my mom). Her dad built the house she grew up in; I was born on the floor in mine.

FAIR WEATHER

MELISSA He was very easy to talk to and very lighthearted and fun.

RYAN I got a lot more comfortable when she started ripping into [her] ribs with her bare hands. She wasn’t afraid to tell me I had mussel sauce all over my nose.

MELISSA He is very sweet and a complete gentleman. His mother raised him well.

RYAN I had to go to work. But I didn’t really want to leave. We exchanged numbers and talked about hanging out again.

MELISSA I had a really fun time. We gave each other a hug goodbye and discussed making plans in the near future.
