Dear Becca and Casey,

I am one of the many lucky ladies who got engaged on Valentine's Day! My fiance and I are hoping to just enjoy the engagement for a little while before we dive into planning. I'm thinking I'd like to get married next June - when do you think we should start looking at photographers?

Confused about the Calendar

Dear Confused,

First of all, congrats! I totally understand wanting some time to soak in the fun of being newly engaged, and you should definitely do that! However, it is always a good idea to get the biggest things (venue, caterer, planner, photographer, florist, band) booked as soon as you can, and then you can relax before you have to start working on all the other small details. People book really far out, especially in a seasonal wedding market like New England. September can book up almost two years in advance for some photographers! Choosing a photographer takes time, so it doesn't hurt to start doing your research now.

Another word of advice: if you find yourself stuck and aren't able to find a photographer available for your date, ask your vendors for help! I have a great network of local photographers I am happy to recommend to brides, and I am almost always able to find someone who is available.

Don't worry, the right vendors are out there for you!

Best of luck,
