> SUITING UP
LINDA I thought I would be nervous, but I was quite calm.
JOHN I was pretty relaxed, other than being concerned that I’d be late. I didn’t want her to be waiting. As it turned out, I was right on time, and Linda walked into the restaurant shortly after I did.
LINDA When I was arriving at the restaurant, as I entered, I saw a man seated alone in the waiting area.
JOHN Linda asked for the reservation. I overheard her and knew she was my date. I introduced myself and then proceeded to get seated.
> THE JUMP
JOHN I was pretty comfortable right from the start. It only got better as the date went on.
LINDA John stood up and we shook hands. He seemed a bit nervous at first meeting and when we first sat down at the table. I thought he was physically attractive. While having dinner and talking, I noticed he has a great smile. I also liked that he is very much a gentleman. He seemed to have a great deal of respect for women.
JOHN I thought she looked great. She was dressed nicely and seemed warm and fun right from the start. We started talking right away.
LINDA Hiking, biking, kayaking and cross-country skiing are some of his favorite things to do. He likes difficult and long hikes. I asked him if he had any scary encounters with animals while hiking and he told me about his meeting with a moose.
JOHN We both have had lots of jobs and interesting experiences raising children. We both have been sky-diving, enjoy the seashore and coastal communities.
LINDA We both have two daughters in their 20s. We both enjoy doing activities outdoors (although I prefer sleeping in a bed as opposed to camping and easy day hikes as opposed to 4,000-foot mountains).
JOHN I liked when she spoke about her daughters. I could feel how connected and loving she is toward them.
> BACK TO EARTH
JOHN As it turned out, the timing was a bit tight. I had reserved my little Zipcar to allow for a two-hour date. We talked and enjoyed each other and time slipped away a bit. Otherwise, I think we would have had some time after the meal. It was a bit rushed at the end.
LINDA We exchanged phone numbers, had a quick hug, and went our separate ways.
> SECOND DATE?
JOHN Maybe. It might be difficult, as we live far from each other. But circumstances change, so you never know.
LINDA I would go out on another date with John. He is a very nice guy and I had a good time on the date.
