"I just loved being able to talk and joke with my friends-but in French." That's the comment of one summer academy student, and now, for the first time, the acclaimed summer language immersion program at Middlebury College is available to middle and high school students at a variety of locations. "Live. Learn. Leap" is the motto at the renowned Middlebury-Monterey Language Academy, where immersion learning builds a dedicated community devoted to language development and practice.

With small classes, creative group projects, and individual attention, the academy provides a year's worth of classroom instruction in a single month. Cultural enrichment includes special evening events such as films and live theater, music, student-created movies, and hands-on culinary adventures, as well as field trips, all in the target language.

A revolutionary "Language Pledge" allows students to "stay in the language" and make huge leaps in fluency. Pre-college students in grades 8-12 get a taste of college life at world-class institutions that offer unforgettable facilities, food, and access to learning activities off campus.

The two New England sites are Green Mountain College in Poultney, Vt., which offers Chinese, French, and Spanish, and new for 2011, Roger Williams University in Bristol, R.I., which offers Italian, French, and Spanish. Language learning is fun but challenging at Middlebury- Monterey Language Academy.
