Even though most Chinese do not celebrate Christmas, the holiday is still prominent in the country's marketplace. Chinese businesses use Christmas displays as a marketing tool for enticing shoppers during the holiday season.
Some do celebrate Christmas and a Santa-esque figure named Dun Che Lao Ren, or "Christmas Old Man." Even non-Christian Chinese celebrate the Spring Festival around the same time, so there is seasonal joy for all.
In southeastern China, a 9-meter (30-foot) -high Christmas tree made of 4,000 beer bottles was lit up today at the Baolong Square in Fuzhou, the capital of Fujian Province.
