Hampton Terrace Pool

There are 28 inns in Lenox.   Four have pools.   Beyond Lenox, there are 120 inns and b&bs in the Berkshires.   An even lower percentage have pools.

So why does Hampton Terrace have a heated 20 x 40 pool with natural rock waterfall?

Actually, there are NOT a lot of good reasons.   We open the pool on Memorial Day Weekend and close it at the end of September.   During that four month period, only July and August offer consistently warm days and marginally warm evenings.   June and September e...

Shakespeare & Company

A short stroll from Hampton Terrace is Shakespeare & Company, one of the world's longest-running and most prestigious Shakespeare presenters.   Founded by Royal Shakespeare veteran Tina Packer more than 36 years ago, the company has been presenting simultaneous performances on their multiple stages for years.

Many of the founding actors/administration are still around and involved, including Tina herself.  The company has remained vibrant by mixing things up every year.   They don't limit themselves to...

The Mount

Many small towns have a significant mansion.   Lenox has about 5,000 residents, but it has 80+ significant mansions - all called "Berkshire Cottages."  The term "cottage" is tongue-in-cheek as many of these homes have dozens of bedrooms.   Hampton Terrace is one of the smaller ones - and we have 14 original bedrooms.   The owners of these estates established and hosted the Lenox social season, which was a two-week period in early September.

These mansions were built mainly between 1880 and 1920, and some...

Lenox Motorcar Classic

Not that Lenox needs additional reasons for people to visit....what with Ventfort Hall, Shakespeare & Company, The Mount, and numerous restaurants, shops and galleries.

Same thing with Hampton Terrace.   Our pool is now open, and the yard is quickly developing into its splendid mid-summer form.   New roofing throughout.   Refinished oak hardwood floors in all of our common areas.   New HD TVs, fresh paint in many rooms....

So how about a leisurely stroll down Main Street and enjoy MANY dozens...

You just never know!

Woodcock ChicksWhat will happen next. I was on my way to Augusta for a meeting at the fish and wildlife department. I always go the back way out past Sweetgrass Winery and down over the Medomak River. I came to a stop at the bottom of the hill and could see what looked like a pile of feathers in the road. A car coming the other way stopped quickly and backed up to the pile. Easing forward I could see now that it was a woodcock.

Fishing with your kids

May 08, 2014

By Don Kleiner

I always go on about how great it is to fish with kids and last evening was the proof for me. I met my now grown son Noah at the boat launch after he got out of work. We chose Megunticook Lake in Camden because it is nearby for him and I like to fish there. We spent a couple of hours casting flies for rainbow trout in a quiet cove. The fish were cooperative enough to keep our interest, including one that broke off my fly.

Early Fishing Report

April 28, 2014

By Don Kleiner

The last few days have been noticeable for cold wind and rain showers. I had fishing trips two days and can report that warm, waterproof and windproof clothes are the order of the day. In spite of the weather the water levels in the Saint George are falling nicely from the spring high water. It will not be long until we are at the ideal spring levels.

On the water again this morning

April 22, 2014

By Don Kleiner

At last! It has been a long cold winter to be sure with a spring that just did not want to start. Still it is 60 degrees this morning without much wind and a cloudy sky. This is the fun part of being a guide, I have to scout for the fish. That really means a few hours on the water for me, poking around to see what has changed over the winter.
