MESSAGE BOARD
How should Boston commemorate the one-year anniversary of the September 11 attacks?
Officials in New York City announced today they will commemorate the one-year anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks with a ceremony at Ground Zero at which former Mayor Giuliani will begin a reading of the victims' names. Several Broadway plays will go dark and many of the companies that lost employees in the attacks are holding private memorial services. What should Boston do to mark the Sept. 11 anniversary? Should workers get time off to attend services? What sorts of ceremonies do you think Boston should hold?

Boston should hold open-air, ecumenical memorial services all around the city. Churches of all faiths should be open all day and night.

I think a candle light vigil on City Hall plaza is the way to go. Ask the Pops could perform and take the time to remember the victims of the attack and to also celebrate the strength we have discovered as a nation. We will never fall to the forces of evil that use terror as a political tool. God bless America and pray for those surving our country in the armed forces who have sworn there lives to protect us and those we love.

I think Boston should have a giant monitor in Government center broadcasting the NY memorial live. I also think that all of the TV network should stop competing with ideas of how to commemorate this day and instead all broadcast the NY memorial as well. We don't need different ideas on how to mourn this tragic day, we simply need unity and respect for the victims' families. The best way to commemorate this day is to focus on one tribute, as one nation.

Let's get everyone at Logan to do their job properly so no more jets can be hijacked!.

Everyone should have the day off.

A sixty second moment of silence at the time of the first impact in NYC with the tolling of bells at churches

We should close all our businesses that morning and open at noon. The City of Boston should hold a motorcade of firefighters and policemen in black limos etc slowly driving through the heart of the city with bells tolling. The clergy and churches should be entirely out of the ceremony.

Although all our hearts will be with the people of NYC, Bostonians can not forget that 2 of the planes began their fateful flights in Boston. Perhaps the names of the victims on those flights should be read on the steps of city hall or the state house simultaneously with the Grond Zero ceremony. Anyone who wishes to attend should be given the opportunity.

Boston should do absolutely nothing. Don't embarrass yourselves the way New York will (see today's announcement) Sometimes, it is best for government to remain silent and allow citizens to reflect in whatever way works best for them. Brendan 1 WTC Survivor Brooklyn, NY (originally from Boston)

A quiet time of reflection for family and friends to remember their loved ones and for the rest of us to never forget what happened one year before. Nothing more. No media event. No staged photo ops. No political rhetoric. No more manipulation of human tragedy.
