MESSAGE BOARD
How should Boston commemorate the one-year anniversary of the September 11 attacks?
Officials in New York City announced today they will commemorate the one-year anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks with a ceremony at Ground Zero at which former Mayor Giuliani will begin a reading of the victims' names. Several Broadway plays will go dark and many of the companies that lost employees in the attacks are holding private memorial services. What should Boston do to mark the Sept. 11 anniversary? Should workers get time off to attend services? What sorts of ceremonies do you think Boston should hold?

I feel for the victims of the attacks and those left behind, and I shudder at the memory of that day, but I think the less that is done to officially mark the day the more sacred the memories will be. The beautiful reaction of this country in the days after the attacks was grabbed on and perverted into a disgusting business of catch phrases and and commerece by October01. We don't need cheesey TV coverage, talking pundits, stupid catch phrases and news show graphic titles ("One year later: The Rememberance...etc")and certainly not hollow ceremonies by civic officials who have done nothing to improve the situation other than use it as an excuse to grab more power, stomp on the constitution, and soil the memories of those who were lost. I think we should be left to remember as we want to - without the circus show media or ceremonies.

I believe we need to stop blaming, take a moment to remember everything we have, and how blessed we are. Have a moment of silence and go on with are day. We need to make a statement, by living are lives normally that say we are saying we will not stand for terrorism, and that we stand for freedom. I think the moment of silence is neccesary, to pay respect to the innocence lost on that day. A day I know I will NEVER forget.

To mark Sept. 11, people throughout the US should stop their activities and pause for a minute of silence, at the moment the first jet hit the first Twin Tower in NYC.

While sometimes we all want to forget that 9-11 happened, that fact remains that it did and nothing will be the same. But to not do anything is wrong! How is mourning the loss of friends,family,co-workers,lovers and people of service wrong? I feel bad those for survived, I feel bad for those who lost loved ones. I hate the fact that people are arguing over how to be on this day. I hate that we even have to discuss any of this. But we do. So let people mourn, remember, pray, take the day off. Call people just see how they are doing and tell them you love them. Because we can! Whatever gets us through.

They need to do something at logan, where the two planes took off. Moment of silence or something
nancy, quincy
I think Logan Airport and the rest of the nation should cease any and all types of FAA operations in honor of those who lost their lives on 9/11.
Joe, Quincy
I think that companies should close for business that day in rememberance of those lost and out of respect for those that lost family and close friends. One day of not doing business isnt going to make that big a difference in the economy at this point.

People should be nice to each other as they were moments after the attacks. No one honking horns, smiling and waving to each other, red/white and blue everywhere
paul, quincy
Declare a holiday.
Dick, Boston
We need a permanent memorial in the City of Boston for the victims. A moment of silence for all 4 planes at the times that they went down.
