Recommendations made by the American Academy of Pediatrics:
► Recess should be considered a child’s personal time, and it should not be withheld for academic or punitive reasons.
► Recess should be long enough and frequent enough to allow students to “mentally decompress.”
► Recess shouldn’t be used as a replacement for physical education. Unlike a PE class, recess (particularly unstructured recess) provides the creative, social, and emotional benefits of play.
► Recess should be safe and well supervised.
