Barnstable police find themselves in middle of cemetery drug deal; three arrested

Three people were arrested after Barnstable police allegedly found themselves in the middle of a drug deal in a cemetery in the Hyannis neighborhood.

Two officers who work for the Street Crime Unit were dressed in plainclothes and driving an unmarked police car at about 2 p.m. Tuesday when they saw “some suspicious activity” in the Oak Grove Cemetery on Sea Street, police said in a statement.

Police said the officers witnessed a woman in a stopped vehicle give them a hand signal and they stopped behind her.

She then got out of her car and, police said, she tried to get in the back seat of the officers’ car.

The woman, Jody Florence-Howes, 42, of Falmouth, was allegedly waiting for two bags of heroin to be delivered from a local drug dealer.

Soon after, a second vehicle that police said resembled the cruiser entered the cemetery.

Corey Pina, 21, of Yarmouth and Kiranbir Singh, 22, of Centerville, were arrested after the officers allegedly found two bags of heroin in the vehicle. They were both charged with possession with intent to distribute heroin, conspiracy to violate narcotics laws, and being present where heroin is kept.

Police also found a Class E substance without a valid prescription in Florence Howes’s possession. She was charged with conspiracy to violate narcotics laws and possession of the Class E substance.
