Forecasters: Keep an eye out for thunderstorms
Scattered showers are already popping up around Massachusetts today, and thunderstorms could produce damaging winds and hail according to the National Weather Service.
The weather service issued a hazardous weather outlook for the state because of the chance for heavy downpours and localized flooding.
Meteorologist Matthew Belk said there is a hot, humid air mass hovering over Massachusetts, which could produce rain throughout the day.
He said, “You could see a shower at just about any time,” and that the rain will come and go all day.
Belk said a warm front is moving in today, bringing heavy humidity, which will linger until the front passes.
Skies will be mostly cloudy today and temperatures will be in the low 80s. Tonight will be humid and temperatures will be in the low 70s.
The chance for showers and thunderstorms continues into Tuesday, possibly bringing more heavy rain. A low pressure system followed by a cold front sinking into the state in the next few days is to blame for the precipitation, Belk said.
Skies will be partly sunny and there will be high humidity and temperatures in the upper 80s.
Wednesday will bring sunny skies and temperatures in the low 80s, but the end of the week brings more threats of storms.Melissa Werthmann can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
