Two-alarm fire ignited by child causes $325,000 damage in Roslindale

A two-alarm fire ignited by a child with a lighter caused an estimated $300,000 in damage today to a Roslindale home. One firefighter was sent to the hospital with a back injury, while one resident was taken to be evaluated, Boston fire officials said.
The fire was reported at 12:38 p.m. at 444 Hyde Park Ave., the fire department said. Firefighters saw flames on the rear porches when they arrived.
The fire was on the second-floor porch and extended to the third-floor porch, then into the attic, the department said.
Six residents were displaced.
Fire officials said the fire was caused by a child with a lighter on the second floor near a porch.
Heat from the fire also melted siding on an adjacent house on Philbrick Street, causing an estimated $25,000 in damage, the department said.
