One killed, one injured in crash on Route 213 in Methuen

A single-vehicle rollover crash on Route 213 in Methuen early this morning killed one woman and seriously injured another, State Police said.

Maria Bonet, 23, of Boston suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash, which was reported at 1:46 a.m. She was transported to Lawrence General Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Bonet was a passenger in a car driven by Jara Li Bonet, 24, of Haverhill. Jara Li Bonet suffered serious injuries and was transported to Lawrence General Hospital and later to Massachusetts General Hospital. State Police did not release her current condition.

The crash happened as Jara Li Bonet drove a 2006 Infiniti FX SUV east on the road.

State Police did not disclose the relationship between the two women.

Alcohol and speed appear to have been factors in the crash, State Police said. No charges have yet been filed.

Route 213 eastbound was closed for several hours to allow for rescue operations and documentation of the incident.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by State and Methuen police.
