E. Boston woman arrested after rear-ending cruiser driving on I-93 in Boston
State Police arrested a 30-year-old East Boston woman for driving drunk after she crashed into an unmarked cruiser driving northbound on Interstate 93 in Boston this morning, State Police spokesman David Procopio said in a statement.
After the woman drove into the State Police cruiser, she backed into another vehicle, Procopio said.
The accident happened near the Freeport Street exit in Dorchester at 9 a.m., he said.
State Police arrested Maura Bertolino and charged her with operating under the influence of liquor, operating to endanger, following too close, and wrong-way operation for backing up on the highway, Procopio said.
Bertolino was transported to the State Police barracks in South Boston, he said.
State Police called EMS because of Bertolino’s extreme level of intoxication and expected that she would be transported to a hospital, Procopio said.
A State Police investigation indicated that Bertolino was driving a Toyota Camry in the center lane of Route 93, moved into the right lane, and then switched back to the center lane, where she sped up and rear-ended the cruiser, Procopio said.
A State Police captain assigned to the Registry of Motor Vehicles enforcement unit was driving the cruiser, he said.
No injuries were reported.
There is no arraignment scheduled yet because of Bertolino’s condition, Procopio said.Melissa Werthmann can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
