Guided missile cruiser to spend Columbus Day weekend in Boston
Nearly 300 sailors on a guided missile cruiser will arrive in Boston for the holiday weekend, the US Navy said.
The Ticonderoga-class missile cruiser USS Anzio will make her second Columbus Day visit to Boston, easing into Massport’s North Jetty at Boston Marine Industrial Park on Friday morning, the Navy said in a statement.
Anzio sailors will be marching in Sunday’s Columbus Day parade in East Boston.
They will also help with the Monday evening dinner service at the Pine Street Inn homeless shelter.
During the port visit, the Anzio will be open for free public tours Saturday through Monday from noon to 4 p.m., the Navy said.
The 9,650-ton Anzio is 567 feet long and 55 feet wide.
