Massachusetts will be showered with rain on and off throughout the day, but the clouds will clear by Thursday, leaving sunny, cool weather, according to the National Weather Service.

The spotty showers are being caused by a weak low pressure system moving through the region, followed by a cold front pushing through later tonight, said meteorologist Alan Dunham.

The scattered showers will continue into the evening hours, he said.

“I won’t even rule out a chance of a rumble of thunder,” Dunham said.

Temperatures will dip into the mid-40s tonight and skies should clear by midnight, he said.

Bay Staters will wake up to dry, sunny weather Thursday morning. Westerly winds will blow across the state at about 15 miles per hour and could gust up to 30 miles per hour, Dunham said.

Temperatures will be as high as 60.

“It’ll be a beautiful day, a little chilly,” he said.

Friday will be breezy and partly sunny, according to the weather service. Daytime temperatures will climb as high as 58 and nighttime temperatures will be as low as 36.
