Hyannis man, 22, wins $30.5m lottery jackpot
A 22-year-old Hyannis man took home one of two winning Mega Millions tickets with a $30.5 million jackpot that was drawn Tuesday, the state lottery said.
Sandeep Singh, who goes by “Sunny,” came forward with his mother, sister, and niece Wednesday to claim his prize, which he elected to receive in a “one-time, lump sum payment of approximately $23 million,” said the state lottery in a statement Wednesday. After taxes, Singh should receive about $16.1 million.
Signh, who holds two jobs as a bank teller and a salesman for a box retailer, plans to return to college and buy a home for his family with the winnings, the state lottery said.
He is splitting the total winnings, $61 million, with a second winner in Fresno, Calif., said Beth Bresnahan, spokeswoman for the lottery.
The winning ticket with the numbers 13-37-40-46-52, and a Megaball of 29, was sold at AM/PM Convenience on Bearses Way in Hyannis. The store will get a $50,000 commission from the win, Bresnahan said.
Candido Oliveira, of Dorchester, was the last Massachusetts resident to win the Mega Million jackpot, said the state lottery. Oliveira won a $32 million jackpot on Aug. 19, 2011.
