A Lynn mother was arrested on two counts of assault and battery after striking her child in the face for bringing the wrong shoes to school, police said.

On Nov. 14, Rosilda Lopez, 28, was asked to bring sneakers for her 6-year-old daughter to the Drewicz Elementary School, said Lynn Police Lieutenant Chris Kelly.

The girl was called to the office to meet her mother — who was upset she had to go to the school and bring the shoes — and was struck in the face twice by Lopez’s hand, he said.

A child witness brought the incident, which was recorded on a surveillance camera, to the attention of a school official, Kelly said.

Authorities were called to the school to investigate, and Lopez was placed under arrest.

The girl suffered minor injuries from the assault, Kelly said. The state’s Department of Children and Families is involved in the case.

Lopez pleaded not guilty at her arraignment in Lynn District Court on Thursday and was released on personal recognizance, the Essex County district attorney’s office said. She is slated to reappear in court on Jan. 3 for a pretrial hearing.
