Springfield man allegedly left toddler in car while shopping for flat-screen TV
A Springfield man is facing possible child endangerment charges after leaving his girlfriend’s son in a car outside of a Kmart while he bought a flat-screen television, police said.
The 2-year-old boy was found by police officers sleeping inside a vehicle in the Springfield Plaza parking lot around 1:20 a.m., said Springfield Police Lieutenant Robert Moynihan.
The officers attempted several times to page the owner of the vehicle inside of the store, but no one came forward. Police then broke a window to get into the vehicle and check on the child, Moynihan said.
A complaint has been filed against Anthony Perry, 34, for the incident, which is still under investigation, he said.
The vehicle is owned by the boy’s mother. Perry’s relationship to the child is unknown, Moynihan said.
The state’s Department of Children and Families has also been contacted, he said.
