Gloucester woman faces negligent driving charges for her role in fatal accident

A Gloucester woman faces negligent driving charges for her role in a fatal accident on Saturday, authorities said.

Rebecca Jacques, 52, was driving a vehicle that struck another vehicle on Essex Avenue in Gloucester at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday, according to a statement from the Essex District Attorney’s Office.

A passenger in the other vehicle, Mary Lipman, 52, of Ipswich, died after being taken to a nearby hospital, the statement said.

The driver of the vehicle that Lipman was in was an off-duty State Police trooper, “who was cooperative and consented to have investigators seize his blood and urine samples and medical records,” the district attorney’s office said.

Jacques is expected to be arraigned Monday in Gloucester District Court on charges of negligent driving, operating after suspension and a marked lanes violation, the statement said. More charges are possible; local and state police are investigating the crash.
