South Boston man charged with possessing semi-automatic rifle
A 25-year-old South Boston man is facing charges of illegal possession of a gun and ammunition after being arrested with a Calico M-100 rifle and 48 rounds of ammunition Tuesday evening, Suffolk County prosecutors said.
Alexis A. Laboy was arrested in Dorchester after police responded to a 911 call of a man with a gun at the intersection of Kemp Street and Father Songin Way. When police searched him, they discovered the Calico as well as .22-caliber ammunition, neither of which Laboy had a license to possess, Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley’s office said in a statement.
The M-100 can hold up to 100 rounds of ammunition in a special clip, according to the manufacturer’s website.
Laboy was arraigned Wednesday in South Boston District Court. Judge Michael Bolden imposed $20,000 cash bail. He is slated to return to court Jan. 29.
“Whatever this defendant’s intentions with a concealed rifle and 48 rounds of ammunition, we can bet they weren’t good,” said Conley’s spokesman Jake Wark in an e-mail. “Fortunately, a member of the community had the courage and good sense to call 911 and help police take them off the street.”
Laboy’s bail was set at $20,000 cash and will appear in court on Jan. 29, Wark said.
