A head-on collision early today in Wellesley near Babson College caused multiple injuries. One woman went by MedFlight to Massachusetts General Hospital after she was found unconscious at the crash scene, Wellesley Police Sergeant Scott Whittemore said.

Whittemore said a Mercedes Benz with seven people on board drifted across the double yellow line and collided head-on with a Honda with only one occupant. Seven of the eight people in both cars, including the drivers of both the Mercedes and Honda, are Babson students, he said.

The crash occurred around 2:41 a.m. when both vehicles were traveling on Wellesley Avenue near Hunnewell Street, Whittemore said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but Whittemore said there was no sign that alcohol played a role with either driver. He said that a crash reconstruction team is piecing together what happened, including the speeds of the vehicles, but it is clear that the Mercedes driver caused the crash by crossing into the oncoming lane.

Five people were riding in the back seat of the Mercedes at the time of crash. None were wearing seatbelts, Whittemore said. Arriving officers found one woman unconscious and unresponsive; a helicopter was summoned to rush her to MGH.

The woman, a Babson student, was in stable condition with head injuries, he said.

The driver of the Honda and two other Mercedes passengers were transported by ambulance to Boston hospitals with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening, he said.
