Mother, 36, and son, 16, killed in two car crash in Fitchburg; cause under investigation
A mother and her son were killed in a two-car crash in Fitchburg that also sent the driver of the other vehicle to the hospital, according to the office of Worcester District Attorney Joseph Early 2nd.
Investigators said the mother, Michelle Martens, 36, and her son, Justin Fournier, 16, both of Ashby, were riding in a Kia Sportage when the car crossed over a marked lane and hit a Chevrolet Silverado.
Investigators have not yet determined who was driving the Kia when it collided with the Chevrolet around 10 a.m. today, officials said. The cause of the crash also has not been determined, officials said.
The other driver, Wayne F. Patenaude, was taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester for his injuries, where he was expected to remain overnight. Investigators do not have Patenaude’s age or address.
The incident is being investigated by Early’s office along with State and Fitchburg police.
