MBTA Transit Police are searching for a woman who spit on a bus driver’s face after the driver ejected her from the bus for not paying her fare, police said today.
Around 3:20 p.m. Saturday, the woman boarded a 22 bus at Ashmont Station, a police statement said. After not paying her fare, the woman spat on the driver.
In a memo sent Wednesday to the state Department of Transportation’s executives and board of directors, General Manager Beverly A. Scott said the MBTA is working with the Carmen’s Union to back legislation granting Transit Police more power to make arrests when T employees have been assaulted.
The issue of T driver safety has come to the fore recently after a driver was attacked early Saturday in Dorchester by a mob of teenagers. One arrest has been made in the case.
