Arson seen as cause of 4-alarm fire in Lynn that left dozens homeless
A four-alarm fire that ripped through a Lynn apartment building early Monday and left more than 40 people homeless, was intentionally set, according to State Fire Marshal Stephen D. Coan.
The fire at 145 Lewis St. began in the rear, lower floors of the building around 11:54 p.m. Sunday, then spread to the upper floors and destroyed the building’s roof.
As of Tuesday night, 14 people were still staying in a temporary shelter set up for tenants of the building who lost their home, said Red Cross spokeswoman Kat Powers.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the fire to call the arson hotline at 1-800-682-9229.Todd Feathers can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org. Follow him on Twitter at @ToddFeathers.
