Man suffering from burns pulled from Muddy River brush fire
A man suffering from burns was pulled out of the Muddy River Saturday night by firefighters battling a brush fire in the Back Bay Fens, the Boston Fire Department said Sunday.
As firefighters were putting out the brush fire, they noticed a man in the river, said department spokesman Steve MacDonald. The firefighters put on survival suits so they could retrieve the seriously injured man.
“The chief called in investigators to see how the fire started or to see if the man had a role in it,” MacDonald said, adding that he could not comment on whether or not the fire was suspicious in any way. He said the fire, which broke out on Fenway between Boylston Street and Westland Avenue, is still under investigation.
The man was taken by Boston EMS to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. MacDonald did not have any further information on the man’s condition.Sarah N. Mattero can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
