Mayor Thomas M. Menino broke his right leg Friday when he twisted his ankle and fell. He will have surgery Saturday to repair the bone, according to his spokeswoman.
Menino fractured his fibula—one of the bones of the lower leg—and will have a plate and screws implanted to set his leg, according to the spokeswoman, Dot Joyce.“He’s very frustrated, but overall he’s trying to make the best out of everything,” Joyce said. “As one of doctors said to me, he’s had some back luck.”
Menino twisted his ankle Friday morning while walking into an event at the Joseph Lee School on Talbot Avenue, Joyce said. He fell to the ground and did not make it into the event.
Menino then went to City Hall and put ice on his leg, Joyce said. It continued hurting, so he sought treatment at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Menino will spend the night in the hospital, she said.
