A suspicious package was reported at a Boston University academic building Tuesday evening, BU spokesman Colin Riley said.
The university, in a text message alert around 4:30 p.m., advised all students, staff, and faculty to stay clear of the area around the College of Arts and Sciences Building on Commonwealth Avenue. About 20 minutes later, the school sent out another alert saying no threat had been found and university and Boston police cleared the scene.
Before the all-clear, students took to social media saying the building at 725 Commonwealth Avenue had been evacuated. Riley could not confirm the building’s evacuation.
“This is the result of someone’s vigilance to report something that looked out of place,” Riley said.
Law-enforcement officials around the city are on heightened alert to take seriously any reports of suspicious packages.
