Wareham girl, 3, in critical condition after being found unresponsive in Dick’s Pond, police say
A young Wareham girl who wandered away from home is in critical condition today after search parties found her floating unconscious in Dick’s Pond near her home, police said.
Alyvia Navarro, 3, is being treated at Boston Children’s Hospital today after Wareham paramedics were able to stabilize her on scene around 1 p.m. Tuesday, an hour after she was reported missing, a Wareham police statement said.
“She was very critical last night and she’s in very critical condition again this morning,” Wareham police Lieutenant Kevin Walsh said. “It’s touch and go.”
Navarro’s grandmother, Valerie Navarro, reported the child missing from their home at the Lakeside Trailer Park, the statement said. The pond abuts the trailer park, Walsh said.
Wareham police, K-9 units, firefighters, and harbormaster assistants frantically searched the area until they found Navarro, who is autistic, in the pond 25 feet from shore, the statement said.Todd Feathers can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org. Follow him on Twitter at @ToddFeathers.
